Welcome to our "Fish List" Newsletter

In 1997, the commercial fishing family of Bonnie and Captain Mark Tognazzini turned to consumer-direct (straight from the boat) fish sales in response to the disparity between wholesale and consumer fish prices. During albacore and salmon seasons (around May to September), Captain Mark would fish during the week and then conduct sales from the Bonnie Marietta on the weekends. A weekly email would notify customers of the sales, and they would turn out in droves, sometimes standing in line for two or more hours for a chance to buy a whole fish directly off the boat.

By the time the Tognazzinis opened Dockside Too Fish Market in 2006, they were eager to be able to provide loyal customers with a wider variety of high quality local fish, while also supporting other local skippers. However, the sea continues to call, and Captain Mark still fishes and conducts straight-from-the-boat sales when albacore and salmon are available in sufficient numbers. (As Mark says, it's called "fishing," not "catching.") So, the email list, or "Fish List" as it is commonly known, continues!  However, it now also serves to notify customers of special local catches featured in the Fish Market and restaurants.  You'll find previous Fish List emails below.

Memorial Day is fast approaching and we are looking forward to a festive weekend here on the Central Coast. In recognition of this day, we would like to offer two great deals on Local Troll-caught King Salmon.

First if you are looking for just a little bit of this amazing fish, we will be featuring King Salmon fillets for $19.95 per pound. This option is great for those who need a few pounds or less yet still want a solid value.

Second, if you can use a bit more, we will also be offering whole King Salmon for $10.95 per pound. This option is an even better value for those who are looking for enough fish for a few people or to put a bit away for a later date. Whole fish return approximately 70 percent when filleted, resulting in a fillet cost of about $16 per pound. Remember that as always, if you purchase a whole fish, we will cut them for you at no additional charge.

Whole fish this weekend range in size from about 9-pounds to 16-pounds with most fish being in the 11-pound range. Both weekend specials will be available Friday, May 23rd through Monday, May 26th while supplies last

Local Troll-caught King Salmon is without a doubt the finest Salmon available anywhere! It is extremely versatile and can be prepared with almost any cooking method including baking, broiling, poaching, and of course our favorite Charbroiling or BBQing! If you are looking for a great value and an extraordinary product to showcase this weekend we promise that you won’t be disappointed.

May has arrived on the Central Coast and brought with it the re-opening of many of our local fishing seasons including Lingcod, near-shore Rockfish and the much-anticipated King Salmon season.

So let’s talk Salmon first…. Salmon fishing thus far has been very slow with most fishermen landing one or two fish per day with the occasional high score of five or six fish. Slow fishing was coupled with super windy afternoons for the first part of the month making for some short days for most of our local fleet. The wind backed off a bit with onset of our current hot-spell but it seems as though the fishing has also. The good news has been that we have been offered most of the fish that have been caught locally. This means that our supply has been good and we are able to consistently offer local King Salmon fillets for $22.95 per pound.

For those of you who are wondering when or if Capt. Mark will sell his Salmon off the decks of the Bonnie Marietta this year…all I can say for now is that we definitely hope to! It takes almost 100 Salmon per week for the Captain to meet the demand and have direct sales go smoothly. Fishing thus far has fallen far short of this. When and if fishing does increase we will defiantly let you know as we look forward to it just as much as you do!

In other fishing news, near-shore Rockfish and Lingcod seasons have re-opened and we are getting landings of each daily. Capt. Patchen of the Kaps and Capt. Kann of the C have been bringing us steady supplies of Lingcod while Capt. Leage of the Lea and Capt. Buckman of the Buckfish have had good landings of Vermilion Rockfish.

Further offshore, Capt. Owen Hackleman of the Provision and his father Steve Hackleman of the Ruth Anne II have filled our demand for Blackcod while Capt. Nguyen of the Golden Eagle continues to keep us in good supply of another favorite Grenadier.

Much thanks to all of our local Captains who continue to grind it out day after day in order to provide us and you with some of the best fresh local fish anywhere!
